Have you got a creative streak, but just don't know how to go about making something fun and interesting? In Cool Sculpture you will not only learn about what sculpture is, but how to make some pretty cool things to impress your friends. Andre Hansen says that "sculpture is three-dimensional art" and he urges the young, aspiring sculpturer to be patient and confident. He tells us about the tools of the trade. Its basic elements (line, plane, volume, texture and color), its composition (movement, balance, space, scale), and techniques (modeling, casting, assembling). After giving us the scoop on what sculpture is all about he shows you how to make some very cool and interesting things to impress your friends or just have a lot of fun. He gives instructions to make a wire frame superhero, an Origami swan, casts of your favorite small toys, a mobile and a papier-mâché monster! This book is not lengthy by any means, but has a heavy dose of information packed inside. In addition to the basic history of sculpture it has fully illustrated, step-by-step projects. Each project has a color coded system to match the step to the photograph, making it much easier for a youngster to follow. The "Tools of the Trade" covers two pages of photographs showing what will be needed for all the projects in the book. Many of them are things you probably already have (toilet paper rolls, glue, masking tape, etc.) and the rest should be inexpensive (balloons, art paste, glue, acrylic paints, etc.). Your budding artist may love poring over this book and I see it as an excellent addition to the homeschool library!
